Conversely on the afternoon of Tuesday 6th the ice was distinctly more watery, and I wore spikes from San Jacinto Peak down to Wellman Divide (9700 ft). Most of this snow had melted prior to my hike to San Jacinto Peak on 31st December. Altitudes are approximate.
